Where did we come from?
In May of 2005, our founder Jake Berton began studying the ins and outs of the then emerging technologies such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and the more seasoned facebook. The power behind these platforms amazed him, and he knew it wouldn’t be long until they crept into the daily lives of millions. With that in mind he continually looked for opportunities to be a part of the industry – the result being eCampusWIDE, a network built exclusively for local university students to help them save time instead of waste… meaning specialized applications for students to swap notes & book, compare professors, learn more about student organizations and activities around town, the list goes on and on.
Now this network launched to the student body in August 2009 and within 90 days had gained over 3,000 student users without placing a single ad. Where did they come from? Word of mouth through Social Media. It was that simple. On the 91st day when reviewing the numbers Jake realized at that very moment that these powers could be used across many industries and can be extremely effective when targeting both local and national markets so long as there was definitive ‘ideal customer’ in mind. The businesses he worked with for eCampusWIDE were naturally asking for tid bits of help here and there which turned to freelance work which ultimately led to the birth of Athens Social Media. To kick off the year of 2010 we opened our new office on Prince Avenue and are now constantly researching and developing the most effective and efficient methods to leverage the ever-growing Social Media industry to help our clients grow their business.
